if anyone following me has never seen the Daicon IV opening animation you owe it to yourself, please, it’s only a few minutes of your time
this is so important to me on so many levels, i honestly think its the greatest animated short film ever made. a) it’s set to Prologue/Twilight by Electric Light Orchestra, and b) it was made by like 12 people in a warehouse, and those people later went on to form one of the greatest animation studios of all time, Gainax.
it just inspires me so fucking much because like it’s such a fucking impressive feat, especially for its time. it was hand animated by barely over a handful of amateurs and just fucking look at some of the animation in these scenes, they’re spectacular. it just inspires me so much as an aspiring animator because like, Gainax was formed by a bunch of dorks who loved anime and wanted to make their own shit. a bunch of people just like us. and they ended up creating some of the greatest animes ever made. if anything is living breathing proof of the “go beyond the impossible and kick reason to the curb” philosophy, it’s this.
im sorry but i still miss gainax a lot
